SEASON 2023 Vol 1 – PRE SEASON WRAP

Welcome to season 2023 and our first volume of Hawk Talk. It’s been an unbelievably busy off season at General Chicken Co Oval and we are excited to provide an update for our Heidelberg West community.

COMMITTEE

Craig Toohey has been elected to as president and will head our football club for a 2nd straight term. Supporting Craig on the executive committee will be Josh Bullock as Vice President, Jess Taylor as Netball operations manager, Stefan Condello as treasurer and Rhiannon Walkley as secretary. The general committee of Teigan Chapman, Caprice Weir, Ebony Taylor, Greg Camilleri, Tom Kimpton, Kirby Bell, Paul Byrne, Terry Doukas and Jacinta Parry will be supporting our executive.

SPONSORSHIP

Like every sporting club we are always grateful for all levels of support from our community sponsors, without them we wouldn’t be able to put teams on the park.

We are fortunate to have the backing from platinum sponsor Olympic Hotel once again. The Olympic Hotel has been loyal supporters of ours since 2014.

We also welcome General Chicken Co as as platinum partner and the naming sponsor of Heidelberg Park for 2023 & 2024. We are very grateful for the support shown by Nuri and the team over the previous 12 months and are our clubs first port of call for all catering needs.

COACHES

We very pleased to announce that senior coach Mick Missen would continue to build on the foundation he has laid for our football program in 2023. Mick will be supported once again by Terry Doukas as senior assistant and Alex Hywood & Lou Hill as playing assistant coaches.

Returning to club in the role of Reserves coach is Greg Camilleri who will be supported by his brother and past senior captain Matt Camilleri.

Daniel Francis has been appointed as our under 19 coach for season 2023 & 2024. Daniel has a decorated career within Div 1 & Div 2 of the NFNL which includes multiple team of the year selections and competition goalkicking awards. He hit the ground running and has been a significant source of energy around the program.

UNDER 19S

There is some exciting announcements to be made shortly so please watch this space.

WOMENS FOOTBALL

After we receiving significant interest we are fielding expressions of interest for women who are looking for a fresh start, a casual game of football or might be interested in giving it a go for the first time.

NETBALL

Our netballers have working hard and have been joining in with our footballers to gain extra fitness ahead of the winter season. FOOTBALL

There has been plenty of excitement coming through on the training track this summer with consistently great numbers putting in the work.

We have been able to retain our core playing list from 2022 and have added plenty of new faces to go along with our players who are returning from injury. All of our recruits have been first class since joining the club adding to the culture of the playing group by displaying great leadership qualities and a high level of work ethic on the training track.

We are looking forward to measuring where we are against some opposition in the upcoming practice matches.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Our senior men have been fixtures a bye for round and will kick off the football campaign with a Friday Night fixture against Fitzroy Stars. We will also be playing in our inaugural indigenous jumper which has been designed by current player Alex Williamson.

Our past player catch up will also be held on this fixture and we are looking forward to catching up with many of our past players and Hawk Legends on the night!
